Braulio's Story

“Desde muy temprana edad he sido determinado y decidido con lo que quiero hacer en mi vida. Mis padres me trajeron a los Estados Unidos para que yo tuviera la oportunidad de obtener una buena educación y la verdad es que he sido constante con mis estudios. Desde el séptimo grado me involucré en un programa que se llama AVID (Advancement Vía Individual Determination) que se encarga de preparar a estudiantes de primera generación para estar listos mentalmente y académicamente al ingreso al colegio universitario. Yo me siento listo y preparado para ingresar al colegio en búsqueda de mejorar y avanzar en mi educación para obtener la carera que quiero. Al igual busco ser un ejemplo para mis y hermanos menores y para los miembros de mi comunidad. Y más que nada hacer orgullos a mis padres que me brindaron esta oportunidad. Fuera de la escuela me gusta mucho estar afuera al aire libre. Mis actividades favoritas son el futbol, snowboarding, correr, y campar. Me gusta ser un líder en mi comunidad así me encuentro involucrado con el programa de SOS Outreach. En este programa yo soy un Junior Mentor y me encargo de enseñarles a niños menores 5 importantes valores que pueden usar en todo aspecto de su vida. Esto incluye coraje, disciplina, integridad, compasión, y sabiduría. Estoy encargado de enseñarles a los niños cómo esquiar y demostrarles la importancia de el servicio comunitario. Donamos nuestro tiempo al ser voluntarios y preparamos cajas de comida para familias con necesidad. Es mi primera vez que aplico para el DACA, ya que la primera vez que se inició no alcance a meter mi solicitud porque se cerraron las aplicaciones y aparte aún no calificaba por mi edad, pero ahora que lo estoy haciendo estoy muy contento porque se que me va ayudar mucho en mi futuro y más en mis estudios ya que voy ha seguir estudiando en el Colegio y así tendré más oportunidades y también quisiera poder trabajar legalmente para ayudar a mis padres con los gastos de mis estudios.”
“From an early age I have been determined and decided with what I want to do in my life. My parents brought me to the United States so that I would have the opportunity to obtain a good education and the truth is that I have been constant with my studies. Since the seventh grade I have been involved in a program called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) that is responsible for preparing first generation students to be mentally and academically ready for college. I feel ready and prepared to enter college in search of improving and advancing in my education to obtain the career I want. I also seek to be an example for my younger brothers and sisters and for the members of my community. And more than anything to make my parents proud that they gave me this opportunity. Outside of school I really like being outside in the fresh air. My favorite activities are soccer, snowboarding, running, and camping. I like being a leader in my community, so I got involved with the SOS Outreach program. In this program I am a Junior Mentor and I am in charge of teaching children under 5 important values that they can use in every aspect of their lives. This includes courage, discipline, integrity, compassion, and wisdom. I am charged with teaching children how to ski and demonstrating the importance of community service. We donate our time by volunteering and preparing food boxes for families in need. I have just applied for DACA for the first time, since I could not submit my application before because I did not yet qualify because of my age, and then in 2017 the applications closed, but now that I can do it I am very happy because I know that it will help me a lot in my future and even more in my studies, since I am going to continue studying at the College and thus I will have more opportunities in the future, and I would also like to be able to work legally to help my parents with the expenses of my studies.”
