Mountain Dreamers Works Under the IRS "VITA" Program to Help Immigrants Apply for ITINs and File Income Taxes
This tax season, Mountain Dreamers helped over 130 immigrant locals in Summit and Eagle Counties file and pay income taxes, most for the first time, and apply for an ITIN - an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.
For the 3rd year in a row MD worked as a partial IRS "VITA", or "Volunteer Income Tax Assistance" site, in collaboration with the pro bono income tax preparers and attorneys at Denver Asset Building Coalition.
The MD team not only helped people gather the information they need to do their taxes, but educated them on the benefits of filing, such as being able to prove income to rent an apartment or get a home loan, or on the strong positive impact that filing and paying taxes has on being approved for an immigration benefit, like a Green Card.
IMMIGRANTS PAY TAXES! INCLUDING UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS!
Let Mountain Dreamers bust, once and for all, the myth that immigrants don't pay taxes.
Undocumented immigrants alone annually pay well over $21 billion in federal taxes and $13 billion in state and local taxes (American Immigration Council).
Mountain Dreamers sees, day in and day out, the passion that immigrants have for contributing to their community, state, and country, and the team is proud to lead them through the complicated process of paying their fair share.
